Beauty Superlatives: Highlighter Edition
Whether you’re a product junkie or a makeup neophyte, chances are you’ve purchased some type of highlighter (and maybe even watched a few You Tube tutorials) to mimic the look of healthy, glowing skin. Back in the early 2000’s, Jennifer Lopez’s luminous skin was #goals for thousands of women. Those women bought hoards of highlighters and luminizers all in an effort to reproduce her famous, namesake, J Lo glow. Why? Because glowing skin equals healthy skin and healthy skin equals youthful skin. And who doesn’t want youthful skin? Today, every major cosmetic company from high-end department store brands to drugstore staples have at least one product designed to illuminate your skin. As a result, the amount of choices can be overwhelming. So, I offer you Beauty Superlatives: Highlighter Edition. Consider a few of these picks during your next makeup run. And yes, a makeup run is a thing
Cosmetic Caution: A little goes a long way. Remember, the goal is to mimic natural, glow-from-within skin not florescent, glow- in-the-dark skin.
Peppers Johnson Beauty Superlatives: Highlighter Edition
Most Portable – Benefit, High Beam Liquid Face Highlighter ($26.00). This little bottle of sunshine comes in a durable glass bottle with a tiny little brush that makes this highlighter easy to apply anytime, anywhere. And because the bottle is only .33 oz., it’s TSA approved.
Most Coveted – Anastasia Beverly Hills, glow kits ($40.00). Anastasia came to prominence as the eyebrow wizard of the stars. However, it’s her glow kits that are legendary. For the makeup obsessed, waiting for the launch of the newest Anastasia glow kit palette is akin to sneaker heads waiting for the release of the latest Retro Jordans. My favorites are Dripping Gold from the That Glow palette and Amber Gold from the Ultimate Glow palette.
Goody Two Shoes Highlighter – Marc Jacobs, Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter ($44.00). Not only does this highlighter offer a healthy, radiant glow, it also provides moisture and a dose of provitamin B5. In addition, it’s highly versatile — you can apply it directly to your skin or add it to your favorite moisturizer or primer. And it’s buildabilty allows you to choose a natural sheen or a super glow. Dang, what can’t this stuff do?
I’m Ready For My World Tour Glow – Artist Couture, Diamond Glow Powders ($26.99). The creation of the Mac Daddy of celebrity makeup artists, Angel Merino, these fine, shimmery powders pack enough high-intensity glow to take you to instant Sasha Fierce status. Subtly is not an option with Diamond Glow. Take a look. I’m partial to Gold Digger.
OG Favorite – MAC, Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle ($33.00). This bad mamma jamma earns OG Favorite status based on portability, cost, and the ability to provide the most natural glow. It was also the first highlighter I fell in love with.
