Favorite Face Masks

On any given day, I may use up to 10 different skincare products. Of all the products I use, I love using face masks the most. I love the self-indulgent act of applying a face mask and the fact that it requires being still, even if it’s only for 15-20 minutes.  In addition to the pampering aspects, masks are also a highly effective way to address skin concerns like dry, aging, or acne-prone skin.

When picking a mask, I usually look for ones that hydrate or brighten. I don’t believe that you have to spend a lot of money to find a good face mask. I’ve found great masks at TJ Maxx, Target, even Forever 21. It’s really all about finding a mask the has the right ingredients to address your skin concerns. Some of the ingredients I look for are:

  • Collagen – Improves skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, and increases skin moisture
  • Ceramide – Helps form the skin’s protective barrier and helps skin retain moisture
  • Vitamin C – Brightens skin, fades hyperpigmentation, and improves elasticity
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids – Exfoliates and supports natural collagen production

Although I do love the ubiquitous sheet mask, I equally enjoy gel, cream, and clay masks — The Zombie Mask, not so much.  Here are a few of my faves.

Sheet Mask: Dr. Jart, Ceramidin Facial Mask. ($6) I love this entire product line. Skin looks supple and even a little younger as fine lines are plumped into oblivion.

Exfoliating Mask: Peter Thomas Roth, Pumpkin Enzyme. ($58) It scrubs, brighten, and softens. But, the best part might be the smell (yummy). Perfect for those who love all things pumpkin.

Brightening Mask: Fresh, Vitamin C Glow Face Mask. ($25 – $62) Another mask with a yummy smell. Great choice to add some oomph when your skin is looking a little meh.

Overnight Mask: Dr. Jart, Water Fuse Hydro Sleep Mask. ($48) I’m a little obsessed with overnight masks. The idea that something is working on my skin while I sleep is too exciting. Give the humidifier a break and slather on this mask instead.

Whether or not you try one my favorites, consider adding a face mask to your regular skincare regimen at least 3 times a week. You’ll discover that in 20 minutes you can unmask a whole new you.
