Product review: KKW x Kylie lipstick

As a woman way over 21, it feels a little weird to be excited about lipstick created by someone who can’t legally have a shot of tequila. Yet, that doesn’t stop me from picking up my phone to purchase the new KKW x Kylie lipstick on the first day it launched (remember, this is a no judgement zone). The newest Kylie Cosmetics set was touted as the perfect shades of nude. And a claim like that was enough for me to click “Submit Order”. Each of the four liquid lipsticks bare the name of its famous co-creator: Kimberly, Kim, KiKi, and Kimmie. The kit sells for $45 which breakdowns to a little more than $11 per lipstick — not bad.

The kit comes in a beautiful package. The shades include a beige nude, pink nude, peach nude and rose nude. I really like all of the colors. However, for women with olive or dark skin tones, it’s best to wear the lipsticks with a darker lipliner to achieve a more natural look. Without a lipliner, you could look like you’ve been eating sidewalk chalk. Kimberly (beige nude) is my favorite color.  I wear it with MAC Cork lipliner to get the most bomb nude lips.

The KKW set is the first creme liquid lipstick formula from Kylie Cosmetics.  A creme liquid lipstick is also new to me. Creme is not quite the same as matte but it’s not at all glossy. It kinda mimics the natural texture and sheen of your lips. Because the lipsticks don’t have any sheen, they wear more like a matte or long-wearing lipstick. However, they aren’t as drying as a matte or long-wearing lipstick, which is a definite plus. The color doesn’t have quite same staying power of a long as a long-wearing lipstick. But, I only re-applied twice during a normal workday. That’s impressive.

The Takeaway:  Nude lips are everything and a huge part of my everyday look. For that reason, I’m sure I will use the lipsticks a lot. They look good, feel great, and offer a pretty good value. I may not purchase the entire lip kit again, but I would re-purchase Kimberly and Kimmie if sold separately.
